Michael’s Values

It’s important to understand the person that I am in order for you to trust me with your vote.  Below are the values that make me the person that I am.

Mutual respect is an important building block for every relationship. After a 25 year career in the lottery industry and 25 plus years of volunteer work within the community, I have learned the value of listening to the opinions of others and of acknowledging the strengths that each person brings to the table.

Being a member of a visible minority, I have a unique appreciation of the importance of being treated with fairness in our community and have felt what it is like to be treated unfairly. Therefore when I am in a leadership position I ensure that individuals are treated with the respect they deserve and have the chance to have their perspective heard. Group morale is extremely important and treating everyone from the newest to most senior employee with fairness is critical to achieving this.

I believe that communication is an essential aspect of all successful personal and work relationships. Active listening, positive feedback, and approachability are vital components of effective communication. I believe in a flexible style of communication which allows for open conversation and positive conflict resolution.

I value the diversity of our neighbourhoods and the unique perspective that people of different backgrounds bring to each community. Everyone has different gifts, talents and experiences that help our neighbourhoods thrive and to be a place that everyone can be proud to call home.  Having grown up in rural Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg, I have been fortunate to have learned from a diverse group of role models.

I believe in creating a positive and safe environment that promotes collaboration between groups.  I will help to connect communities, government, and businesses to problem solve issues that impact all of us.  I believe in life long learning and that we can continue to grow from each other through collaboration.

I believe that transparency is important for all aspects of life; particularly as a public figure at any level of government. It is important for stakeholders to be aware of how an elected representative is carrying out their responsibilities and to be part of that process.

I proudly believe in our city. With your support in the October Winnipeg civic election, I can and will make a positive difference for everyone.  Please vote for me on Thursday October 24, 2018 to help make a #PositiveDifference. If I can be of help, please contact me and I will be happy to listen.
