Hello and welcome to my website for the 2018 Winnipeg Civic Election.

I believe very much in our community of Winnipeg and in its future potential. I have therefore as of June 30, 2018, registered as a candidate for the diverse ward of Fort Rouge and East Fort Garry. The election is scheduled for October 24, 2018. You can vote on that day or in advance polls prior to the election day.

The past 5 years have seen an amazing amount of growth and change within Winnipeg and throughout the world. We have many advantages and infrastructures that give us a great jumping off point for business, community and culture. We need to continue to properly leverage our resources to the advantage of all sectors.

With your support I will ensure that Winnipeg continues to be a progressive city now and moving forward. I am looking forward to speaking with constituents within the Fort Rouge and East Fort Garry to help identify the issues and concerns that matter most within the riding and our city.

If you would like to speak with or get in contact with me, please feel free to reach out by phone at 204-272-9555 or by email at VoteMichaelt@shaw.ca.

I welcome the chance to listen and to find out more about the issues that are important to you.

Thank you,

Michael Thompson

  1. Hi Michael – nice website and bio. Can you outline what your platform is about? I am most interested in hearing how you propose to control costs for the Police, Fire Fighters, and City employees. In almost any government department, payroll grows and grows – until there is no money left for programs. That is why we have seen salaries rise – and services fall. We must stop this trend – and get back to providing more services in our communities – and relief the taxes from property owners.

    1. Hi Randy,
Thanks for the feedback on the website, my team is working hard to try their best.

In terms of my platform, we are in the process of working on the wording. I have many ideas, thoughts and visions for the city and issues facing us. The challenge is putting it in a readable format. well structured thoughts and practical for a wider audience. I hope to have something for everyone at the end of this month.

In terms of the salaries, I have been considering this issue as well. Do you have any direct experience with the salaries from the city or is a general concern with the impact of salaries on the budget? I am by no way an expert on this subject but I am open to listening to others ideas, understanding what’s been tried in the past and willing to implement new approaches. Given the majority of salaries are linked to union contracts, the issue becomes more challenging but not impossible. Understanding the contracts will be a large part of my work.

      Michael Thompson
